We get another AFC East Thursday Night Football matchup between two 1-1 teams. There has been plenty of talk about how poorly teams perform on short rest after having an OT game, which was the case for the Patriots. Teams after an OT game on short rest have historically performed terribly. What’s the trend for a 40-year-old quarterback coming off Achilles surgery after missing a whole season and now playing on a short week?
Both teams played a game that came down to the last possession, so I am personally throwing out that OT trend. Last week, every underdog of six or more points won outright. I can see some people betting on the Patriots blindly just based on that.
Let’s talk about the matchup. The Patriots have a tough run defense, but their pass defense is extremely poor. This bodes well for the Jets’ passing game and Aaron Rodgers. Just like the struggling Pats’ pass defense, the Jets’ run defense has not been good. I expect the Patriots’ power running game to give them all they can handle.
I think we get a close, low-scoring game. It will depend on the Patriots’ pass defense. If they can’t get stops, they won’t cover. The Titans played the Jets close and should have won. The same could be said about the Pats against the Seahawks. We should have a close game tonight. Throw the trends out the window.
