College Baseball in Texas Wednesday
Senior catcher Ryan Snell helped his Lamar Cardinals take down the #10 Texas A&M Aggies on the road Tuesday.
The state of Texas is very rich in baseball history and tradition from the high school ranks, college to Major League Baseball. The University of Texas is tied for 2nd place all-time in National Championships with six. The state of Texas has the sixth most players in the MLB Hall of Fame with 16 from Ernie Banks, Eddie Matthews, Frank Robinson, Joe Morgan, Nolan Ryan and most recent Greg Maddux. That also includes three players from the Negro League: Louis Santop, Biz Mackey & Andy Cooper. There’s nothing we here at DDSN love more than to showcase the Lone Star State and its baseball will be no different. There are great college baseball teams to cover, discuss and highlight. This series may need to be daily and then recap the weekend because we don’t want to miss anything. We will also be covering the rest of the country and sharing analysis and wagering insight to help those that also bet college baseball like we do. The Texas series will be more in depth and then we’ll go over the best betting opportunities from across the country. Hopefully yall enjoy the coverage!

College Baseball in Texas Recaps:
FINAL: Lamar Cardinals 7 vs. #10 Texas A&M Aggies 4
On Tuesday, we spoke about the Aggies having a soft schedule and how they will need to find some offense if they want to be successful this season. Well, the offense is still MIA and the Aggies fell to the Lamar Cardinals. Senior Catcher Ryan Snell from Hardin, TX was 2/5 with 1 HR, 2 R & 4 RBI and was as productive as the Aggies offense. Snell had some help from senior Kevin Bermudez who was an effective 1/2 with a 2B, 3 BB & 2 R. Lamar doubled up Texas A&M in the hits category, 10 hits to A&Ms 4. After five innings, Lamar completely shut out the Aggies, something Texas A&M was unable to accomplish.
Texas A&M has the Portland Pilots and their high powered offense next in College Station. Will they be able to win the series? Can’t wait to follow along.
FINAL: Texas A&M Corpus Christi 2 vs. Texas Longhorns 12
The University of Texas finally gets its first win of the season. Not only did they win but the Longhorn bats came to life in a big way! UT had 16 hits led by transfer from Vanderbilt, Jack O’Dowd who was 3/4 with 1 3B, 1 R & 3 RBI. More importantly for the Longhorns.. they didn’t commit a single error. No, not Jon Voight’s Chrysler LeBaron but Lebarron Johnson Jr. had a great game on the mound. Johnson Jr. pitched 5 three hit innings allowing only 1 run with 8 strikeouts. As we talked about yesterday, UT has such a stacked schedule and a 3 game series with the Indiana Hoosiers is next in Austin.
FINAL: McNeese State Cowboys 6 vs. Sam Houston State Bearkats 18
The Sam Houston State Bearkats deserve a shoutout because they have an explosive offense and put on quite the show against McNeese State. The Bearkat’s produced 18 runs on 17 hits! They were led by Tyler Davis from Spring, TX who was 3/3 with 1 2B, 2 BB, 2 R & 2 RBI.
Sam Houston State will face off with Rice 2/22/23 before the Karbach Classic in Round Rock, TX. If we don’t get to discuss this game more it’s because there is not a betting line for it but there will be a recap for tomorrow. Update: I’m seeing an offshore number of SHSU (-135) vs. Rice (+105). If you can find this anywhere, take SHSU.
Pick: Sam Houston State (-135); $100 bet to win $74.07
College Baseball in Texas Previews & Wagering:
2/22/23: Kansas State Wildcats (-165) vs. Lamar Cardinals (+135); total 10.5; 6:00pm ct
No time to waste for the Lamar Cardinals as they now host Kansas State a day after “upsetting” Texas A&M. The K-State Wildcats will be coming into this game leading the Big 12 in home runs with a +22 run differential after its series against Stephen F. Austin. The Wildcats will start RHP German Fajardo, which will be his 2nd start of the season. He comes in with 4 innings pitched under his belt with a 4.50 ERA. We have yet to hear who the Cardinals plan on pitching but I want to take a shot with the dog here and over the total due to two high powered offenses.
Pick: Lamar (+135); $100 bet to win $135 & Over 10.5 runs (-115); $100 to win $86.96
2/22/23: Houston Cougars vs. UTSA Roadrunners
The Roadrunners won its first two games against the Tarleton Texans before dropping the rubber match in extra innings. Senior from Corpus Christi, TX, Antonio Valdez led the Roadrunners this weekend hitting .417 with 1 2B, 2 BB, 2 R & 2 RBI. Valdez was the most consistent against Tarleton State. Huge matchup on deck vs. the Houston Cougars. The Cougars will be led by Alex Lopez from Houston, TX who’s hitting .556/.583/.556 after their three game series with Cal-Berkeley. No info on who is pitching at this time or a betting number.
Pick: NA
2/22/23: Abilene Christian (+215) vs. Oklahoma Sooners (-270); total 11.5 runs; 6:05pm ct
Abilene Christian is bringing its (3-1) record with them to face the OU Sooners (2-2) in Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX. ACU is projected to start RHP Blake Anderson (3.00) ERA from Royse City, TX making his 3rd appearance of the season. The one earned run Anderson allowed was when he started for ACU and only pitched 1 inning. The Sooners’ projected starter is LHP Braden Carmichael from Prosper, TX making his first appearance of the season. The OU offense has not been as good as its opponents’ so far this season but they are led by Anthony Mackenzie from Houston, TX. Mackenzie has posted a .429AVG/.474OBP/.500SLG slashline (batting average/on base %/slugging%) to begin the season leading the Sooners. ACU’s offense is led by OF Logan Britt who has posted an impressive .588/.588/.941. ACU’s offense is impressive and will have upset on its mind. I like Abilene Christian in this neutral site matchup.
Pick: ACU (+215); $100 bet to win $215
