Pebble Beach Golf Links, Pebble Beach, California

Last weekend at Torrey Pines, rookie Matthieu Pavon made history by becoming the first French golfer to win on the PGA Tour since 1907. Pavon will also be looking to become the first player to earn his first two wins in consecutive events on the PGA Tour schedule since David Duval in 1997. Another rookie who is aiming for his second consecutive win is Nick Dunlap, who turned professional after his historic victory at The American Express earlier this month. Dunlap, who joined Tiger Woods as the only golfers to win both the U.S. Junior and U.S. Amateur championships, is back and ready for action.

This will be the second signature event of the season with a total purse of $20 million and the winner will take home $3.6 million and 700 FedEx points. The Pebble Beach field is set at 80 players because of the Pro-Am format.

As for DDSN, we took one on the chin big time last weekend. We were set up perfectly in the final round at the Farmers Insurance Open and we came up short. It happens. I will say, that was our first awful performance with our golf handicaps in the past two years and our first losing tournament this season. It’s still early and as always, we keep track and are always transparent with our record. We move on!

The Field:

The defending champion, Justin Rose, will be participating this weekend. Last year, he tied for the second-lowest total score to par during the final 36 holes. Twelve players, including World Number 1 Scottie Scheffler, will be making their tournament (not US Open) debuts. A few other notable players making their Pebble Beach debut include Emiliano Grillo, Nicolai Hojgaard, Tom Kim, Hideki Matsuyama, and Collin Morikawa.

Out of the 80 players in the field, 38 competed in the 2019 US Open, with 24 of them making the cut. Four of these 38 players finished in the top 10: Justin Rose, Xander Schauffele, Adam Scott, and Rory McIlroy. Viktor Hovland finished tied for 12th, earning low amateur honors.

Justin Thomas is the only player in the field who qualified via his position in the Official World Golf Rankings (26th). Kevin Yu, who also finished tied for 7th at the 2023 Pebble Beach Pro-Am, qualified via the Aon Swing 5.

The Course:

The players will be competing on both the Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill courses. The conditions have been quite wet leading up to the tournament. Last year, Pebble Beach was the third shortest course on the tour and it is being played a week after the longest course, Torrey Pines. The greens this weekend will once again be poa annua. Pebble Beach is a Par 72 course, playing 36-36.

As for the weather, it appears there will be rain tonight and some in the morning, but the wind is expected to die down compared to today. Friday and Saturday are predicted to have pleasant weather with low wind gusts. However, on Sunday, there are supposed to be wind gusts up to 55mph, which should make for an interesting round.
