NFL Season Record: 37-40-7 - Betting 1 Unit to Win X
3:30pm cst: Cleveland Browns -2.5 vs. Houston Texans; Total 44.5
These two played earlier this season where we saw the Browns dominate the Texans behind an incredible performance from Joe Flacco and Amari Cooper. The Texans started Case Keenum and were rotating QBs because CJ Stroud was out due to injury. So, you can throw out the Texans offensive performance that day. What you can’t throw out is how poor the Texans defense played.
The Browns rested all of their players last week so they should be fresh. Texans were able to escape with a win against the Colts. The Texans run defense showed that they are vulnerable. The Colts just could not cash in with the passing game. Will the Texans play better defense today and be able to score with CJ Stroud under center?
The Browns are going to want to attack the Texans run defense and test their defensive backs that struggle defending the pass. If Cleveland can stop Nico Collins, who is the only real target the Texans have due to injuries, they should find success defensively. There is plenty of hype for CJ Stroud and a home Texans squad but they were unimpressive against the Colts.
It’s tempting to take the Texans and CJ Stroud at home but I rather back the Browns defense. If you throw away the 75 yard Nic Collins TD, the Texans skated by and escaped Indy with a win. The Texans have also been taking advantage of the poor QBs they have recently faced. The way Joe Flacco pieced up the Texans defense, I think he can do it again. Rookie QB and rookie head coach making their playoff debuts for Houston as well. I’ll take the rested veterans with the better defense.
Pick: Browns -2.5 (-112) [via DraftKings]
7:15pm cst: Miami Dolphins vs. Kansas City Chiefs -5; Total 43.5
The Miami Dolphins had a chance to lock up their division and the #2 seed but they choked when it mattered the most. Now, they must travel to Arrowhead Stadium and play the reigning Super Bowl champs in -4 degree weather with 30mph winds. Tua wants nothing to do with this weather. Miami will need to lean on their running game and good run blocking. If the Chiefs can get out to a lead that forces Miami to pass they will find great success. How will this injured riddled Miami defense hold up? This Miami team is in a downward spiral. The Chiefs have had a poor regular season by their standards but they still have Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes so anything goes. I love the Chiefs to roll. They have so much going for them in their favor: weather, coaching, bye week, health and a great QB.
Pick: Chiefs -5 (-110) [via DraftKings]
