College Basketball Season Record: 105-91-9 — Betting 1 Unit to Win X
11:00am cst: Tennessee Volunteers -7.5 vs. Georgia Bulldogs; Total 145.5
Don’t look now but the Georgia Bulldogs are tied for 1st in the SEC and host a top five team in the Volunteers. Yes, it is early on in conference play but when was the last time the Bulldogs were this good? It’s been awhile. Tennessee has been up and down in my opinion. They look good against lesser, undersized teams but when they get challenged it’s a different story. Georgia is good enough to give the Vols a run for their money. If the three is falling they can grab the upset here but I like them to keep this game close.
Pick: Georgia +7.5 (-105) [via DraftKings]
1:00pm cst: Oklahoma Sooners vs. Kansas Jayhawks -7; Total 142.5
Kansas escaped with a win last time in Allen Fieldhouse and just loss at UCF. Now, the Sooners come into town after dropping a game in Fort Worth to the Frogs that should have beaten KU. the Sooners have been playing Kansas tough on the road and I expect more of the same. Both teams, now (1-1) in conference play need a win to get back on track. I like this Oklahoma defense to give a softer Kansas team issues. It’s always tough betting against Kansas at home because we know the Jayhawks will get a friendly whistle.
Pick: Oklahoma +7 (-112) [via DraftKings]
1:00pm cst: Kentucky Wildcats vs. Texas A&M Aggies -3.5; Total 154.5
Which A&M team will show up today? The Aggies are not as sharp as they were last year. It’s surprising because they have more experience and are more talented than last season. They went toe-to-toe with Auburn this week but could not put together 40 strong minutes. Now, Kentucky comes to town. This feels like the UK game last weekend against Florida when the Gators were favored. Kentucky is the better team but will be on the road. I like the Wildcats here until A&M can prove to us they can finish a big game. A&M had a red hot team last year against a worse UK team and the Aggies still could not win.
Pick: Kentucky +3.5 (-108) [via DraftKings]
1:00pm cst: Xavier Musketeers vs. Providence Friars -3; Total 143.5
After Providence loss to St. John’s this week I think Red Storm head coach Rick Pitino said it best about Providence, “They play like a team that is starving”. This Friars team plays hard every night especially since the Bryce Hopkins injury. I think this is the game where they let those frustrations out and take care of Xavier at home.
Pick: Providence -3 (-112) [via DraftKings]
2:00pm cst: Utah State Aggies -2 vs. UNLV Runnin’ Rebels; Total 1146.5
UNLV had a great win this week against New Mexico but they have dominated them the past handful of meetings. I feel like people will be heading towards the window to back the Rebels to try and get another upset win. Not so fast! Utah State has dominated this series and are the strongest team in the Mountain West. They have a tough matchup next at New Mexico so as long as they don’t play down to UNLV I see them winning here.
Pick: Utah State -2 (-108) [via DraftKings]
PENDING AFTERNOON / LATE SLATE
3:00pm cst: BYU Cougars -5.5 vs. UCF Knights; Total 146.5
BYU is a big road favorite here after starting (0-2) in Big 12 play and UCF is coming off a huge home upset of Kansas (which we called). I am heading back to the well with the Knights. UCF plays great, hard defense and loves to rebound. They are menaces on the boards and that is something that was evident against Kansas. BYU has good size but they rely a little too much on the three point shot. I really like this UCF team. They are very underrated especially at home.
Pick: UCF +5.5 (-112) [via DraftKings]
3:00pm cst: Kansas State Wildcats vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders -6; Total 138.5
Texas Tech has been on fire and now they play host to Kansas State with the Houston Cougars on deck. Will they be looking past K-State? I don’t think they will because this is still a tough matchup. The Wildcats are also undefeated in conference and love to play on the road. I think this number is stretched just a bit too far. I’ll take the points in what I feel is a very close matchup.
Pick: Kansas State +6 (-110) [via DraftKings]
5:00pm cst: Houston Cougars -4.5 vs. TCU Horned Frogs; Total 136.5
Houston is coming off a close loss to Iowa State but it was a game they played poorly in. Houston struggled with the Cyclones’ pressure defense for 40 minutes. ISU was relentless. I’m not sure if Houston will turn the ball over like they did but I have a feeling they will struggle with this TCU defense. The Horned Frogs were impressive against Oklahoma at home and I am expecting more of the same today.
Pick: TCU +4.5 (-115) [via DraftKings]
7:30pm cst: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs -1; Total 154.5
Alabama played a perfect 2H against South Carolina mostly because the Gamecocks defense was poor. This Mississippi State defense will be a different story for Alabama. The Tide do have a pretty good team looking to turn things around at the right time. MSU was close to taking down the Tide multiple times last season. Tonight they finally take care of business.
Pick: Mississippi State -1 (-115) [via DraftKings]
