NBA Las Vegas Summer League: Day 3
It is time for the much anticipated Las Vegas Summer League in the NBA where the new draft picks get to show what they are made of. This is a one of a kind opportunity for those players still looking to make G-League rosters and fit into their new NBA rotations. We will update as much as possible with early scouting reports and handicaps for wagering. We got off to a good SL start so let us keep it goin’. We are betting 1 unit to win x.
NBA Las Vegas Summer League Record: (+7.29 units)
2:00pm cst: Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers -2
This Raptors team looked very sloppy on Friday and got beat up by the Bulls. Grady Dick could not make a shot and could not find a rhythm. Markquis Nowell was their lone bright spot. This Cavaliers roster is pretty strong with Isaiah Mobley, Emoni Bates, Sharife Cooper and Pete Nance to name a few. Give me the stronger team.
Pick: Cavaliers -2 (-110)
3:00pm cst: Los Angeles Lakers -3.5 vs. Charlotte Hornets
I feel like I am saying this everyday but this Hornets roster is terrible. Even #2 overall pick Brandon Miller has yet to make any noise whatsoever. I said this Friday, this Lakers team is improving with every game led by Hood-Shifino and Max Christie. I’m laying the points fading the Hornets once again.
Pick: Lakers -3.5 (-110)
4:30pm cst: New York Knicks vs. Brooklyn Nets -2.5
We talked about how anemic the Knicks’ summer league roster is and the Nets definitely have a better squad. This is another game where we just have to take the better team with a small number. The Nets are not anything special but a step above the Knicks in my opinion.
Pick: Nets -2.5 (-110)
5:00pm cst: Detroit Pistons vs. Houston Rockets pick
There will not be any Jaden Ivey after an injury last game. From what I can find they look to be shutting him down for the rest of the SL. The Pistons have a strong roster but on a back to back there is no telling if James Wiseman or Jalen Duren will play. Houston has a pretty strong team who will be without Amen Thompson after his ankle injury. I’ll go ahead and take the Rockets here not knowing if the Pistons’ core will get minutes.
Pick: Rockets pick (-110)
6:30pm cst: Boston Celtics -3 vs. Washington Wizards
We talked about this yesterday and it proved to be true: the Wizards have absolutely nobody on their roster. The Celtics actually have a pretty strong team especially with JD Davis from Alabama and Jordan Walsh from Arkansas. I though Walsh should have been a 1st round pick due to his defense. Now he is hitting his 3PT shot? What a steal for Boston. This number is way too short.
Pick: Celtics -3 (-110)
7:00pm cst: San Antonio Spurs -3.5 vs. Portland Trail Blazers
This Portland team is not too bad but they will be without Scoot Henderson. Blazers also have Shaedon Sharpe, Kris Murray from Iowa and Antoine Davis from Detroit Mercy the 2nd all-time leading scorer in NCAA history. Even if you take Victor Wembanyama out of the equation, this Spurs team has been firing on all cylinders and has been one of the most impressive teams thus far. It is hard to bet against the Spurs with Wemby, Champagnie, Barlow, Branham and Bediako. They are stacked!
Pick: Spurs -3.5 (-110)
8:30pm cst: Atlanta Hawks -1 vs. Denver Nuggets
We finally get to choose a dog! I like the Denver Nuggets pieces a bit more than the Hawks. Julian Strawther from Gonzaga, Hunter Tyson from Clemson, Peyton Watson and Jalen Pickett from Penn State. The Nuggets played the Bucks tough but it wasn’t enough. I think they get their first win here instead.
Pick: Nuggets ML (-105)
9:00pm cst: New Orleans Pelicans -2 vs. Golden State Warriors
The last time we saw the Warriors was on Friday and they were taken down by the Lakers. I love this Pelicans team with National Champion Jordan Hawkins from UCONN, Dyson Daniels, EJ Liddell from Ohio State and Landers Nolley from Cincinnati / Memphis. Warriors are solid but the Pelicans did not play too well in the last game and still had a great showing. I think they will have an even better game tonight.
Pick: Pelicans -2 (-110)
