TAMPA – In week three of The Ultimate Fighter, Team McGregor falls again to the might and hunger of Team Chandler, as Austin Hubbard picks up the decision victory over Aaron McKenzie.
From what we’ve been able to see in this season of The Ultimate Fighter, we’ve witnessed complete dominance from Team Chandler, as they have crushed three of Team McGregor’s top fighters, with Aaron McKenzie being the most recent victim.
McKenzie was showing solid defense, but halfway through the first round, he took a straight left followed by a right cross from Hubbard that wobbled him. After that punch from Hubbard, McKenzie was left stunned, and Hubbard mounted an attack great enough to land more strikes and come out with the decision victory.
With this loss, it gives Team McGregor not just another loss but also a chance for them to climb back into the fight to battle through adversity.
To get back into the competition, Team McGregor is going to have to be like their coach and battle through that adversity and overcome their obstacles to achieve greatness.
In their first fight, McGregor fell to Nate Diaz and bounced back in a decision victory in the rematch. In another loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, McGregor came back in his next fight, defeating an aging Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a TKO victory in the first round.
If there’s anybody who can help rally his team to victory, it’s Conor McGregor. In episode four of The Ultimate Fighter, Team Chandler’s Timur Valiyev faces Trevor Wells. Valiyev’s record is 18-3-0, with his last fight being a unanimous decision loss in March of 2022. Although Wells has had many victories, he hasn’t finished an opponent since November of 2017, with a submission by rear-naked choke.
On the other side, Trevor Wells has a mixed-martial arts record of 8-3-0, where he was victorious in his last four fights, with three of the last four being decision victories. Wells was able to finish Heinrich Wassmer by TKO in August of 2022.
The chances of Team McGregor winning look great, as Trevor Wells has shown the ability to finish an opponent. But if the fight goes to the hands of the judges, it could go either way.
Timur Valiyev and Trevor Wells do battle in episode four of The Ultimate Fighter on Tuesday, June 20 at 10:00 p.m. EDT on ESPN and ESPN+. Will Team McGregor be able to put out all the stops and win or will they allow Team Chandler to maintain their position with another victory?
