College Baseball in Texas Friday

The state of Texas is very rich in baseball history and tradition from the high school ranks, college to Major League Baseball. The University of Texas is tied for 2nd place all-time in National Championships with six. The state of Texas has the sixth most players in the MLB Hall of Fame with 16 from Ernie Banks, Eddie Matthews, Frank Robinson, Joe Morgan, Nolan Ryan and most recent Greg Maddux. That also includes three players from the Negro League: Louis Santop, Biz Mackey & Andy Cooper. There’s nothing we here at DDSN love more than to showcase the Lone Star State and its baseball will be no different. There are great college baseball teams to cover, discuss and highlight. This series may need to be daily and then recap along the way because we don’t want to miss anything. We will also be covering the rest of the country and sharing analysis and wagering insight to help those that also bet college baseball like we do. The Texas series will be more in depth and then we’ll go over the best betting opportunities from across the country. Hopefully yall enjoy the coverage!

College Baseball in Texas Previews & Handicaps:

  • 3/3/23: Dallas Baptist Patriots (+125) vs. #24 Southern Miss Golden Eagles (-155); total 10.5; 6:00pm ct

We have a good matchup of mid-major schools going at it in Hattiesburg, MS this weekend. The (7-1) Patriots will start senior RHP Braxton Bragg (2-0, 2.45 ERA) with 19 strikeouts and only 1 walk. The Golden Eagles will be starting RHP Tanner Hall (1-1, 4.50 ERA) with 9 strikeouts and 3 walks. These two schools are close to even with Southern Miss having the slight edge in my opinion. When DBU faced solid competition against TCU it came down to the very end of the game where the Patriots lost 4-1. Both teams have strong offenses and USM past couple game went over this total. I like fading the pitchers here and going over the total. With DBU not having as tough as a schedule I do not want to play them on the road in this spot.

Pick: Over 10.5 (-115); $100 bet to win $86.96

  • 3/3/23: Texas A&M Aggies (-125) vs. #11 Louisville Cardinals (-105); total; 11.5; 7:00pm ct

These two will face off in the Shriner’s College Classic in Houston, TX at Minute Maid Park. The Aggies have struggled mightily to begin the season and this tournament is a great opportunity for them to jump back into things. A&M will start ace RHP Nathan Dettmer from San Antonio, TX (0-0, 0.82 ERA) who we talk about often and has great command. Dettmer has 15 Ks with only 2 walks in 11 innings pitched. The A&M bullpen usually blows his great starts at least to begin the season they have. I cannot find any info on who is starting for the Cardinals. The Aggies knocked Louisville out of the playoffs last season so these two are familiar with one another. Louisville likes to get the bats going early but against Dettmer it will be tough.

Pick: Under 11.5 runs (-115); $100 bet to win $86.96

  • 3/3/23: Texas State Bobcats (-110) vs. Grand Canyon Antelopes (-120); total 9.5 runs; 7:00pm ct

The Bobcats will be throwing its ace RHP Levi Wells from LaPorte, TX (2-0, 0.77 ERA) with 15 strikeouts and 5 walks in 11.2 innings pitched. Texas State has been great during his starts but the Antelopes will be throwing their ace too. It’ll be LHP Zach Thornton (1-0, 0.00 ERA) on the mound for Grand Canyon with 17 strikeouts and 1 walk in 11.2 innings of work. Talk about a power pitching show down in a can’t miss game for Texas baseball fans. This will come down to the bullpen so I’m just playing the under here.

Pick: Under 9.5 (-115) runs; $100 bet to win $86.96

  • 3/3/23: Texas Longhorns (-350) vs. Cal State Fullerton Titans (+270); total 10; 8:00pm

Two college baseball power houses face off this weekend but not looking strong as usual. Texas will be throwing ace LHP Lucas Gordon (0-0, 0.84) who has been amazing for UT in his two starts thus far. Texas’ high price tonight is 100% reflective of Lucas and his power pitching. Fullerton is starting LHP Tyler Stultz (1-1, 5.00 ERA) who had a strong outing against Stanford but roughed up by Michigan. The price is too high here for UT and I’m not confident in Fullerton with Stultz on the mound. Under is probably the best bet with Gordon pitching and UT’s offense on the road.

Pick: Under 10 runs (-115); $100 bet to win $86.96
