Team USA Wins Gold
After a controversial win, nearly losing to Serbia in the semi-finals, Team USA came out on top against France with a 98-87 victory on Saturday afternoon. The team seems to have fully come together after what seemed like an elusive gold medal just a couple of days ago.
The game opened with the typical back-and-forth action of a basketball game. For 20 minutes straight in the first half, Olympic fans were treated to an exciting contest. Victor Wembanyama and company didn’t go down without a fight, keeping the game closer than Team USA expected. France controlled the game for a small portion of the third quarter, but Team USA’s experience, from legendary coaches to the 12th man on the roster, was just too much for Wembanyama and the French.
Representing his host country in the Olympics and doing everything he could to bring gold to France, Wembanyama should continue to keep his head high. French fans should be happy for their future Olympic star and expect to continue facing Team USA in the Olympic tournament. Fortunately, it was only in the latter part of the 4th quarter when the USA decided to run away with the lead from France.
Stephen Curry hit back-to-back threes so many times I lost count every time France would inch closer. He ended with 24 points, all from three-pointers, including a special dagger to seal the win after eliminating the second-best team in the Olympic bracket. Curry started off 5/20 in the first 5 games but ended 17/26 in the last two, resulting in almost 10 threes in back-to-back games. Without Curry, Team USA wouldn’t have won gold or even played in the gold medal game. The MVP of Team USA and Olympic basketball is none other than two-time MVP Stephen Curry.
