Ruben’s Rants: Ring Chasers

I remember a time when athletes stayed with their teams for the duration of their careers. Now what we have is a bunch of spoiled, overpaid NBA players jumping from team to team chasing a ring as if they earned it. Can you say Lebron? If they are as talented as the money they are making then they should be able to raise the level of play from their teammates. Hmm, I’m thinking Larry Bird and Magic Johnson! When I was in high school, yes a long time ago, I wrote an article for the UIL State creative writing competition about Bird and Magic titled Unselfish Heroes that won 3rd place. Back then, people understood the value of superstar players who were more about the team than themselves.
