NBA Finals Record: (1-3-0)

  • 7:00pm cst: Miami Heat vs. Denver Nuggets (-8)

Well, the Miami Heat definitely had tired legs in Game 1 of the Finals. They could not get anything to hit from deep and the Nuggets offense was running like a well oiled machine. Now, it sounds like Caleb Martin is dealing with some sort of illness and will be coming off the bench if he even plays at all. Kevin Love will be in the starting lineup so that give the Heat some rebounding and passing but they lose Martin’s hot offense.

One of the largest factors for me from Game 1 was the Nuggets offense was able to get any shot they wanted thanks to Nikola Jokic running the offense. Murray, Gordon and Michael Porter Jr. all looked great playing off of Jokic. Nothing new but Miami’s defense did not know what to do. Will the Heat defense play with a little more intensity tonight or will Denver have its way with them once again?

Believe it or not but the Miami offense shot a better 3PT % than the Nuggets. The glaring difference was the Heat only shooting 2 FTs to the Nuggets’ 20. Most of that had to do with the Heat settling for 3PT shots as they fired 39 threes. The Heat also had some looks in the paint with some contact but no fouls were called. I do believe that Miami will get more FT attempts so if they can keep pace from the 3PT line this game should stay close. Miami cannot play much worse and the Game 1 spread was still decided on the last possession.

The way I see this game playing out is Miami will have a better offensive night with more effort on the defensive side of the ball. They will also get more FT looks so there is not such a glaring difference. Jimmy Butler will need to show up but Aaron Gordon is on a mission to not make it easy on Butler. We should have a better game tonight with a strong Heat effort to keep it close.

Pick: Heat +8

Kyle Lowry Points Over 7.5 (-125)

Aaron Gordon Points Over 13.5 (-105)

Nikola Jokic Points, Rebounds & Assists Over 51.5 (-135)
