NBA Las Vegas Summer League: Day 2

It is time for the much anticipated Las Vegas Summer League in the NBA where the new draft picks get to show what they are made of. This is a one of a kind opportunity for those players still looking to make G-League rosters and fit into their new NBA rotations. We will update as much as possible with early scouting reports and handicaps for wagering. We got off to a good SL start so let us keep it goin’. We are betting 1 unit to win x.

NBA Las Vegas Summer League Record: (+0.02 units)

  • 2:00pm cst: Miami Heat -1.5 vs. Boston Celtics

The one thing we have learned so far is that the teams that started with extra practice in California or Utah have an advantage. Miami has played well together thus far. Jaime Jaquez and Nikola Jovic have looked fantastic. Boston does have a strong roster but with the Heat’s experience I would rather side with them.

Pick: Heat -1.5 (-110)

  • 2:30pm cst: Dallas Mavericks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder -4.5

Dallas is actually bringing a few strong players to summer league: 1st round pick Olivier-Maxence Prosper, Mike Miles Jr. from TCU, McKinley Wright IV, Jaden Hardy and Jelly Walker from UAB. This is a good group but the only problem is this Thunder team is humming on all cylinders. OKC also has a couple games under their belt. The number is definitely factored in. I like Dallas but it is too tough going against experience in this first game.

Pick: Thunder -4.5

  • 4:00pm cst: New York Knicks vs. Philadelphia 76ers -1.5

The Sixers have a pretty solid squad that had a good run in Salt Lake City. If you look at this Knicks rosters it is pretty slim. Other than Trevor Keels from Duke they do not have much to work with. I like this Sixers team and this spread should be higher especially knowing they have played together in Utah.

Pick: 76ers -1.5 (-110)

  • 4:30pm cst: Detroit Pistons -4.5 vs. Orlando Magic

I’m not going to lie, Detroit will be bringing a squad with them to Las Vegas. Pistons will have Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, James Wiseman, Marcus Sasser and Ausar Thompson to name a few. As you can see, on paper this team is loaded. Orlando will have top pick Anthony Black and Jett Howard leading the way but they definitely are not as strong as Detroit. I have to go with the Pistons here until proven wrong by this Orlando squad. Black is mostly a defensive player so I cannot see him taking over the game but it is not impossible.

Pick: Pistons -4.5 (-110)

  • 6:00pm cst: Memphis Grizzlies -5.5 vs. Chicago Bulls

We talked about how I really like this Bulls summer league team and they got us the underdog victory against the Raptors. The Grizzlies looked strong in Salt Lake City and have a loaded roster. The Bulls will be relying on their 3PT shooting again and will need to improve on their 34% to earn a victory. This is a scrappy bunch that makes me want to take the points here but I feel a fresh Grizzlies team gets the job done.

Pick: Grizzlies -5.5 (-110)

  • 7:00pm cst: Indiana Pacers -6 vs. Washington Wizards

The spread here may not be high enough. The Wizards have one of the worst rosters I have seen. It is actually embarrassing. Nothing against those who play for the Wizards but it is the front office in Washington where it is no surprised they are not very bright. Pacers have a juggernaut of a summer team with Jarace Walker from Houston, Isaiah Wong from Miami, Mathurin, Nembhard and Oscar Tsiebwe from Kentucky. This one may get ugly.

Pick: Pacers -6 (-110)

  • 8:00pm cst: Milwaukee Bucks -3 vs. Phoenix Suns

We talked about how much we liked the Bucks SL team and they cashed for us yesterday. In a back to back I think we will see more of the same. This Suns team is very weak on paper. Big 12 fans will see Marcus Carr from Texas and Grant Sherfield from Oklahoma but other than that there is not much else. This is a short number for a Bucks team that had a strong game 1.

Pick: Bucks -3 (-110)

  • 9:00pm cst: Los Angeles Clippers vs. Utah Jazz -4

The Jazz have a strong team that finally put some things together in their last game in Salt Lake City. The Clippers team on the other hand does not have much to work with. I am not very high on Kobe Brown from Mizzou and they also have Keaton Wallace from UTSA (shoutout!). I like the Jazz and their shooters in this game.

Pick: Jazz -4 (-110)
