NBA Finals Record: (4-4-0)
7:30pm cst: Denver Nuggets (-3.5) vs. Miami Heat
We are on Game 3 with the series tied 1 - 1 after the Miami Heat took Game 2 from Denver in dominating fashion. The Heat forced Nikola Jokic to dominate the game by scoring on his own rather than getting his other teammates involved. That is no easy feat for the best player in the NBA who finished with only 4 assists. This is a key strategy for Miami because it takes away the kick out 3PT that the Nugget role players thrive with. When Heat HC Erik Spoelstra was asked about this strategy he avoided the question and denied it saying something along the lines that there is no stopping Jokic. He is correct. There is no stopping Jokic but the Heat can do everything possible to stop his teammates.
Now, it is up to Nuggets’ HC Mike Malone and Nikola Jokic to figure out a different way to get the team involved. The Nuggets did not play a terrible game as they shot 52% from the field, out rebounded the Heat and dominated the points in the paint. The difference was the Miami Heat shot 17-35 (48.6%) from 3PT range making 6 more 3PT than the Nuggets. Typically in these situation the team who did everything else correct aside from making for 3PT usually bounces back as the team that dominated from 3PT will try and replicate that same performance.
The Miami Heat will be at home but that is not an impossible task for a team of the Nuggets’ caliber especially with Jokic. I feel Denver does everything correctly once again and steals back the count to makes this series 2 - 1.
