TPC Southwind, Memphis, Tennessee

The race for the FedEx Cup has reached the home stretch for the PGA Tour. The first playoff event heads to the home of FedEx, Memphis, Tennessee. TPC Southwind will play host to the top 70 FedEx points earners on the PGA Tour on the season’s final run to the Tour Championship. Rory McIlroy, the 2022 FedEx champion, will look to be the first back-to-back FedEx Cup winner in the history of the FedEx Cup era dating back to 2007. The field was cut from 125 to only 70 golfers this season, which left some big names from qualifying. Most notably, Justin Thomas failed to qualify by one stroke from last week’s Wyndham Championship.

The Field:

This week, the field will be stacked from top to bottom with great golfers. Nine of the top 10 golfers in the OWGR rankings will be competing at TPC Southwind. There will be six rookies who qualified for the playoff run: Eric Cole, Thomas Detry and Ben Griffin are the most notable of the six. Matt Kuchar will continue his streak of being the only player to qualify for the playoffs each year since 2007. Adam Scott missed being the second by finishing the season ranked 72nd. Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler will both be looking to hoist up the FedEx Cup for the first time this season after both having great seasons. The field will consist of 15 different countries being represented, with England and Canada tied with five each. The golfers from the United States and Europe will both be working to finalize their standings for Ryder Cup teams as well.

The Course:

TPC Southwind, established in 1988 and designed by Ron Prichard, has hosted the St. Jude Classic since 1989. The course plays at 7,244 yards, par 70, which is average for distance on the PGA Tour. The course is comprised of zoysia fairways and tees, with Bermuda greens and rough. The grass will be extra thick and grippy this weekend with the forecast. The weather this weekend is going to be wet, humid and hot. Rain chances are high throughout the weekend, with highs in the low 90s and heat indexes in the low 100s. The weather will definitely play a factor this weekend.
