1:20pm cst: Creighton Blue Jays (-2) vs. San Diego State Aztecs
San Diego State will be bringing its tough, physical defense that gave Alabama fits. They rebounded well but it was on the offensive side of the ball where the trouble was. The Aztecs would have stretches of going ice cold but its defense was able to give them turnover opportunities for fast break points. If they game gets tight it is hard to trust this Aztecs team offensively. Creighton will have good size going against SDST but they haven’t really faced a defense like the Aztecs. Creighton’s offense is firing on all cylinders right now and it showed against Princeton. These two met in the first round last year in the 8 v. 9 seed matchup with Creighton winning by 2 in OT. This Blue Jays team is a little better now and seasoned with the same players. SDST for the most part has its same team but its their offense that worries me. If this game is tight and in a pinch I want the Creighton offense. If the Blue Jays can make enough defensive plays they will be in good shape. Possible let down spot for the Aztecs kind of like Gonzaga vs. UCONN but they should be up for the test. I made this game 6 so give me Creighton here on a short number.
4:00pm cst: Miami Hurricanes vs. Texas Longhorns (-4)
Except for UCONN these are the two hottest teams in the tournament. This game could be a blood bath but I think it will try and turn into a track meet like Miami’s game against Houston. Miami is just red hot shooting from the outside but Texas has been playing its best defense of the season in this tournament. Is Miami due for a let down after running through Houston? Can Texas stop the Miami guards? I love the Texas defense and it’s reflected in this number here. I am going to trust these Texas guards who are battle tested from the Big 12 season, Rodney Terry’s defensive coaching against the Hurricane guards and the UT defense playing its best game of the season. I’m laying the points.
