Sweet Sixteen Friday

It’s time for the Sweet Sixteen! No time to waste!

We went on an incredible opening weekend run. After watching these teams all season it was expected but now we must keep it going. Come tip-off on Thursday our record on the season is: (171-163-3) 51% including NCAA Tournament record of (33-23). Let’s get after it!

We will be streaming all day on Twitch during the NCAA Tournament starting Thursday! Give us a follow and come hang out. DDSN Twitch

  • 5:30pm cst: San Diego State (+7.5) vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

This should be a great matchup. The Alabama offense against the tough, mean defense of San Diego State. The Aztecs play a physical style of defense that should give Alabama some issues. SDST is going to want to make this a nasty game. Something that Alabama does not enjoy. The games where Alabama struggled it was against good defense. I think the Aztecs will press and trap the whole game, which Alabama has not seen all season. Too many points here. If the Aztecs can make some shots this will be a tight game and they have a chance for the upset.

  • 6:15pm cst: Miami Hurricanes (+7.5) vs. Houston Cougars

I can see this game playing out a bit like the Tennessee game. Houston has a better defense and offense than the Volunteers but the Houston offense sometimes runs cold. If Miami plays defense like they did against Indiana then they could keep it close. Miami has an offense and like FAU if you could just hang around long enough until your shots really start to fall then anything can happen. The only thing that worries me is if Miami has enough size to grab rebounds. Like I said its a lot of points, the spread against Auburn was 8.5 and Miami is a much better team than Auburn. Have to take the points here. Houston was losing and getting out played by Auburn until they went red hot the last 10 minutes of the game and Auburn went ice cold unable to make free throws.

  • 8:00pm cst: Princeton Tigers (+10) vs. Creighton Blue Jays

I’ve been the biggest Creighton fan all year but to me this is too many points. Princeton played with Arizona who was a top 10 team all season. Princeton has size and can rebound to matchup with Creighton. The Blue Jays are a great team but failed to run away from Baylor when they could have easily done so. I feel this is too many points. Princeton can rebound, they are very patient on offense and I think they will go toe to toe with Creighton.

  • 8:45pm cst: Xavier Musketeers vs. Texas Longhorns (-4)

Now we have our main event with teams from the two best conferences all season: Big East vs. Big 12 & Offense vs. defense. Texas has one of the best defenses in the country and Xavier has one of the worst. The Texas offense is good enough to make plays and Dylan Disu is on fire right now. Xavier played a perfect game against Pitt but I don’t see that happening again. Xavier has one of the best scorers in the country in Souley Boume but Texas HC Rodney Terry is the one who recruited and coached Boume at UTEP before both left the Miners. Terry should have the upper hand in defending him. I think Bishop should start for Texas to try and guard Freemantle the Xavier big man. Texas was ice cold from the 3PT line only making 1 last game but I don’t think that will happen again. If Texas makes its 3PTs it gives them more energy on defense, which is trouble for Xavier. Give me the team that plays both sides of the ball.
