11:00am cst: Pittsburgh Panthers (+5.5) vs. Xavier Musketeers
There is a very high chance there is zero defense played in this game. This can work in the Pitt Panthers favor. Xavier had a very close call against Kennesaw State escaping a first round defeat with seconds remaining. This will probably be a shootout. It will all come down to who makes the most 3PT. Xavier showed a lot of flaws and they aren’t in such good form. Pitt on the other hand is hot and is in good form. I rather take the points in what will be a coin flip shootout.
1:40pm cst: Kentucky Wildcats vs. Kansas State Wildcats (+3)
Meow. Kentucky had a great showing against Providence and what took them to victory lane was the rebounding. Oscar Tsiebwe dominated the glass. K-State will be a little tougher than the Friars. Kansas State brings with them a veteran squad that is tough and hungry for a win. They are battle tested and I think the reason UK is favored here is because of the rebounding they showcased last game. The last time these two met in the tournament Kansas State pulled the upset and I like them to get another win today.
4:15pm cst: Michigan State Spartans vs. Marquette Golden Eagles (-2.5)
Yesterday’s theme was defense. The teams that played tough defense all season brought it last night and inflicted their will onto their opponent. Michigan State is one of the best 3PT shooting teams in the country but they rely on it too much. If the theme runs as true as it did last night then Marquette is the play here. They are the better team and this is too short of a number.
5:10pm cst: St. Mary’s Gaels vs. UCONN Huskies (-4)
The Gaels defeated VCU because they outrebounded the Rams 37 to 29. That is one matchup St. Mary’s is not going to win. UCONN and its big men are playing on a different level. The Huskies will have a huge size advantage. Two great defenses will be going after it. I prefer the Huskies seasoned defense with more size and shooting on offense if the going gets rough.
6:10pm cst: Creighton Blue Jays (+1) vs. Baylor Bears
Creighton was in a dog fight against NCST and it’ll be that way again against Baylor. The Blue Jays don’t have a great defense but it is still in the top 75 in the country, which is much better than Baylor. Creighton is slightly deeper than Baylor even though the Blue Jays lost Miller to a ankle injury last round. He’s doubtful. Baylor is a great team but they only play one side of the ball and I think that will be their downfall.
6:45pm cst: Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (+15.5) vs. Florida Atlantic Owls
FDU coming off one of the largest upsets in NCAA Tournament history. FAU was in a battle against Memphis. FDU should matchup a little better against FAU but size doesn’t really matter after the Purdue game. Usually teams off a massive upset die off but FDU plays defense so it should keep them grounded. Last year, St. Peter’s a 15 seed once its second round matchup against Purdue. I like this FDU team because of their strong guards and tenacious defense. Too many points and they may have a shot to win with their defense.
7:40pm cst: Miami Hurricanes vs. Indiana Hoosiers (-1.5)
The Hurricanes squeaked by against Drake. Their offense wasn’t as sharp as it normally is. The Hurricanes will definitely be at a size disadvantage where Drake took advantage Friday night. It took Miami going to the FT line 29 times vs. Drake’s 8 attempts. I’m leaning on the better defense here again and Trayce Jackson-Davis. The Hoosiers have to run Miami off the 3PT line.
8:40pm cst: TCU Horned Frogs (+4.5) vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs
Now this is where defense will come into play. The TCU defense should be able to give Gonzaga problems. It’s the type of defense that bother the Zags. Their kryptonite is tough teams that play fast physical defense. The TCU don’t get tired and their stamina is their strength. Wrong team is favored here.
