11:10am cst: Furman Paladins (+5.5) vs. San Diego State Aztecs
This should be a great game and the best way to kick off the weekend. Let me break it down to you like this: Furman was a 5.5 dog to UVA and SDST was a 5.5 favorite to a low level College of Charleston team. Charleston played really good defense but had a shitty offensive day. Charleston still loss by only 6. Furman who has a much better offense and who loves to run will counteract the SDST pressure defense. Furman wants to run and gun and if they make their threes I expect them to give the Aztecs trouble. This number should be no higher than 4. Watch for who wins the rebound battle.
1:40pm cst: Duke Blue Devils (-3.5) vs. Tennessee Volunteers
We have been saying this for about a month now that Duke is the 2nd or 3rd best team in the country. Tennessee is very fortunate to have advanced. They don’t have starting PG Zekai Zeigler and it has been an issue. Duke is playing great defense right now and they have a much better offense than Tennessee. Duke all the way.
4:10pm cst: Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Kansas Jayhawks (-3.5)
I have Kansas as my 2nd best team in the country or tied with Duke for the same title. Arkansas looked great to the naked eye against Illinois but the Illini was a dead fish in the water. The Razorbacks still struggled putting them away. They also shot 38%. Arkansas has all the talent in the world but they are fools gold here. This number with Kansas is too short. If Bill Self is on the bench KU will be ready to inflict some serious damage. Rock Chalk.
5:10pm cst: Princeton Tigers (+6.5) vs. Missouri Tigers
Mizzou played a perfect game against Utah State. They couldn’t miss from 3PT range and Kobe Brown was out of his mind. Princeton beat Arizona with defense and patience. They didn’t need any lucky bailout shooting or any other funny business. Mizzou played a lucky game and I’m willing to bet it doesn’t happen again. The only thing that makes me stop and think is the Mizzou pressure defense that looked good against Utah State. Like I said it was the offense that tells me this is too may points. This spread should be 3 or 5. Think about it… if Arizona was playing Mizzou what would the spread be? At least 10 minimum. Princeton actually had a bad shooting day. Too many points here.
6:10pm cst: Auburn Tigers (+5.5) vs. Houston Cougars
This will shape up to be a great game. There are a couple things we know: Marcus Sasser has a groin injury and he is nowhere near playing shape. Houston is not playing like they did a month ago. Auburn on the other hand flexed its capabilities against Iowa. Iowa is weak but what caught my eye was the Auburn players. The Auburn guards played like the veterans they are and Johni Broome was a menace in the post. I honestly think Houston should have lost against NKU but they escaped. Time to fade Houston who is a bit loss without Sasser.
6:45pm cst: Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Texas Longhorns (-5.5)
Let’s keep this one plain and simple. Penn State played a perfect game against Texas A&M. I’m talking about perfect! As in it won’t happen again. Texas played a great game but it wasn’t like what PSU did. Penn State has never played a defense like Texas or what Rodney Terry has in store. UT is going to imbed themselves into the Nittany Lions skin to where they won’t recognize who they are. I made this number 6/8. These cats will run out of lives tonight.
7:40pm cst: Northwestern Wildcats vs. UCLA Burins (-7.5)
Ok, read what is said above and mirror those same statements here. I don’t think this is too many points. NW hasn’t faced a defense like this before. It’s time to tuck Cinderella into bed. Mick Cronin will play this like it’s the National Championship because that is how serious he takes UCLA basketball. He doesn’t take it for granted like Tommy Lloyd at Arizona or Matt Painter at Purdue.
8:40pm cst: Maryland Terrapins vs. Alabama Crimson Tide (-9)
This Alabama team is not West Virginia. Maryland has good size but I’m not too sure they will shoot 50% again from the field. Texas A&M Corpus Christi had a great game in my opinion against Alabama but Maryland doesn’t have the type of offense that can create like the Islanders did. Brandon Miller didn’t score and the Tide still won by 20. Expect an explosion. No mercy.
