College Hoops Conference Tournaments Friday

Like yesterday, these numbers are jumping all over the place. I have plenty of information and knowledge to share on these games but by the time most see the breakdown these numbers are changing because games are on all day. The information paid dividends yesterday so let’s do it again. I’ll play and note what I like the most and play but these games are so volatile and the numbers are saying that. Going into today our record on the season is: (131-133-3) with our goal to finish above 52%. Let’s get after it!

  • Mississippi State Bulldogs (+7.5) vs. Alabama Crimson Tide; 12:00pm

The Bulldogs’ length and toughness on defense have been giving Nate Oates’ Tide problems. What MSU does best which gives Alabama trouble is that they defend the 3PT line. The Tide’s game is to run and shoot the 3 and the Bulldogs are the opposite. They want to slow the game down and play half court basketball. The number is a bit high so give me the Bulldogs.

  • Ohio State Buckeyes (+4) vs. Michigan State Spartans; 1:30pm

We talked about it yesterday.. these Buckeyes have eventually figured it out. It’s amazing what happens when you get the shit kicked out of you for months and finally get tired of it. This is the time of year where teams get hot with NBA talent can be dangerous. MSU will probably be up for this game but OSU is hot and I’m willing to ride the hot hand.

  • Ohio Bobcats vs. Toledo Rockets (-5.5); 4:00pm

The Rockets are red hot heading to the moon that is the NCAA Tournament. This offense is as explosive as can be. Ohio has not had very much success against this Toledo team and I don’t think today will be their day. This number should be closer to 8 or higher.

  • Duke Blue Devils (-2.5) vs. Miami Hurricanes; 6:00pm

When we talked about Duke yesterday we couldn’t have been more correct. This Duke team is the real deal. Miami has a very good offense but it wasn’t too long ago that this Miami team embarrassed Duke. Duke is healthy now and nothing tastes sweeter than revenge. Revenge is what they get tonight.

  • Arkansas Razorbacks (+1) vs. Texas A&M Aggies; 6:00pm

This has been a great SEC rivalry I wasn’t expecting this year. Arkansas has the NBA talent to win this game and the National Championship that we discussed yesterday. I questioned Arkansas’ toughness yesterday and they answered the bell defeating Auburn. Not by making more 3PTs but outrebounding the Tigers 37 to 19. If Arkansas has found itself like Duke and Ohio State.. be careful because the amount of talent this team has can beat anyone. Another coin flip game but if I was betting it would be on Arkansas. Whoever gets the most rebounds wins this game. Razorbacks are out for revenge.

Other Highlighted Games:

  • Tennessee Volunteers (-6) vs. Missouri Tigers; 2:00pm

Missouri has Tennessee’s number but the Volunteers are out for revenge. The Vols will be without Zeigler so I lean the Tigers here. This number is a couple points too high without Zeigler.

  • UAB Blazers vs. North Texas Mean Green (-1); 2:00pm

This is a coin flip game and the number suggests that. Whichever team wins the CUSA Championship get their ticket punched and when these two go at it the game comes down to the last possession. I recommend passing on this one and just enjoying a slugfest.

  • UCONN Huskies (-3.5) vs. Marquette Golden Eagles; 5:30pm

As we talked about yesterday, these Huskies are finally waking up at the right time. The 3 ball is falling and the big men are rising to the occasion. Marquette won the regular season Big East title and UCONN is hungry for the tournament championship. This number is correct and UCONN should be favored. I like the Huskies here.

  • Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Northwestern Wildcats (pick); 5:30pm

Penn State is on the bubble and more than likely is set into the field but it’s not a done deal. Northwestern has struggled with Penn State and they’ll be facing a hungry Nittany Lions team today. Coin flip game so its a pass for me. If I was playing it, I would go towards the hungrier team from State College.

  • Iowa State Cyclones vs. Kansas Jayhawks (-4.5); 6:00pm

Kansas will be without HC Bill Self but when you have a seasoned assistant coach and a team full of NBA players. I lean heavily towards Kansas for this reason: When KU lost to ISU they turned the ball over 20(!) times. PG Dujuan Harris Jr. is playing some of the best basketball in the country. Guards win in March. ISU’s steam will eventually run out when its 3PT - they won’t be facing Baylor and their lack of defense. I lean Kansas but there is a lot of time for this number to mature.

  • Oregon Ducks vs. UCLA Bruins (-6); 8:00pm

UCLA is one of the strongest teams in the country and I would have them as my second best team behind Kansas before Jaylen Clark injury. Oregon lost Dante the 7’ center with an ankle injury. UCLA is the better team and should be able to cover this number unless Oregon shoots lights out which I do not foresee.

  • Creighton Blue Jays (-3.5) vs. Xavier Musketeers; 8:00pm

Creighton is starting to round into form at the right time. Xavier was up and down after the Freemantle injury but I believe they’ve now found their way. This is the correct number and I don’t want to jump in front of Creighton nor do I want to back Xavier without getting 4 points.

  • Maryland Terrapins vs. Indiana Hoosiers (-1); 8:00pm

Maryland is red hot and Indiana has hit a cold patch. I trust IU more here based on their track record. Maryland barely beat Indiana in College Park and I don’t see them escaping this Indiana again.

  • TCU Horned Frogs vs. Texas Longhorns (-2.5); 8:30pm

TCU looked fantastic against K-State and Texas looked sharp against OSU. UT is rightfully favored here based on its defense. Every single UT game comes down to whether or not they can make shots and insure the offense doesn’t get stagnant. The TCU guards will have their shoes laced up for a track meet. This should be a great game so it’s a pass for me.

  • Utah State Aggies (-1.5) vs. Boise State Broncos; Midnight

This is the get out game of the night. Utah State just buried New Mexico and its tournament hopes. Last week USU defeated Boise State fairly easily and I can see that happening again here. Go with the Aggies.
