College Hoops Saturday

It may be Senior Day across the country but it may take a freshman to get the veterans across the finish line.

We have made it to March and it is time for the regular season finale. Next week conference tournaments will start for us, then selection Sunday, play in games and then the Big Dance will tip off. Can’t wait! On the season we are (121-121-3) 50% so let’s get over 50% heading into the conference tournaments. Let’s get after it!

  • [ROT #604]: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Texas A&M Fightin’ Aggies (-2); total 150.5; 11:00am ct

Alabama has locked up 1st place and the regular season SEC Championship so they don’t have anything but bragging rights to play for here. They still want that #1 overall seed but we still have a week to determine that. A&M on the other hand will be having its senior day in Reed Arena where I expect a loud crowd rooting on the Aggies because with a win today that will secure themselves a spot in the tournament. They should be safe anyway but you never know. The Fightin’ Aggies have done us well at home and there’s no reason to stop now.

  • [ROT #620]: Tennessee Volunteers vs. Auburn Tigers (-1.5); total 131.5; 1:00pm ct

The Volunteers have been struggling mightily on the road and Auburn has been securing home wins that should get them into the tournament. It’s senior day for a veteran squad and I expect The Jungle to be hyped up for this one ending the season on a high note. I don’t see Auburn doing much in the tournament but it’s possible. They end on a high note at home Saturday.

  • [ROT #654]: Ole Miss Rebels vs. Missouri Tigers (-9); total 148.5; 2:30pm ct

Ole Miss is in transition time - again. They will be looking for a new coach and have packed it in for the season. Missouri has a veteran team and they cannot drop a game here if they want to try and sneak into the tournament. Rutgers dropped a game to Minnesota so there are bids up for grabs. I expect Mizzou to put the pedal to the metal here. Senior day slaughter incoming.

  • [ROT #658]: Kansas Jayhawks vs. Texas Longhorns (-3); total 148.5; 3:00pm ct

This looks crazy but think about it like this: Kansas has locked up the regular season Big 12 Championship, UT has lost 2 games in a row and are now at home against its biggest rival on senior night. I’m thinking UT gets the win here and its shots from 3PT range finally start to fall. They end the season on a high note while Kansas gets ready for the NCAA Tournament.

  • [ROT #678]: Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders (-6); total 140.5; 5:00pm ct

Another week and yet Avery Anderson III is still out for the Cowboys and I don’t expect they have an offense without him. They don’t. Tech has its best players who are seniors playing their last home game. This is a classic Texas Tech route. They need this game to stand any chance sneaking into the tournament.

  • [ROT #680]: Duke Blue Devils vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (-3.5); total 142.5; 5:30pm ct

Carolina is hitting its stride at the right time and I believe after they win this game it should secure them into the tournament. No way a Big Ten borderline team (Wisconsin, Penn State, Rutgers) should get in ahead of them. Although, how wild would a Michigan State vs. UNC play in game be? This is a Tar Heel game all the way. Duke is poor on the road and I don’t see that changing today. This is do or die.

  • [ROT #694]: UCONN Huskies vs. Villanova Wildcats (+2); total 138.5; 6:30pm ct

Two of the hottest teams in the Big East except one is fighting for its NCAA Tournament lives: Villanova. They have crawled themself from out of the grave and if they win this I give them a legit chance of stealing a bid. UCONN is finally on the road (MSG doesn’t count) and I smell a flat spot. This will come down the Cam Whitmore, the freshman willing his way and his veteran teammates to the Big Dance. Did I mention it’s senior night? Book ‘em, Danno!
