College Hoops Wednesday
Judah Mintz and the Orange Men travel to Tallahassee to face the Florida State Seminoles in a must win game for Syracuse.
Our winning streak was snapped last night after New Mexico was upset at home. We had some good reads but I’ll take responsibility for not including Wake Forest and including the late New Mexico add. Going into the Wednesday slate our NCAAB record sits dead even at 79-79-3. Let’s keep this % over 50 heading into March! I do like some dogs but trying to keep the official card to our 5 piece. I trust these short home favorites. Also, we’ll be streaming discussing the games and other sports talk so come hangout & follow along! DDSN Twitch
Creighton Blue Jays vs. Seton Hall Pirates (+4); total 135.5; 5:30pm ct
Such a great Big East game to kick the night off. Seton Hall has come on strong as of late but so has Creighton. The Pirates let their defense dictate the game. Creighton has NBA talent that can rebound, pass and shoot the 3PT. The Blue Jays are finally looking like they did earlier in the season when I thought they were definitely a Final Four caliber team. Hall is the better defensive and rebounding team. They have to keep the Blue Jays off of the 3PT line and Seton Hall will win this game. This is a much improved Seton Hall team - give me the Pirates!
Iowa State Cyclones vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (-3); total 135.5; 6:00pm
When you see Iowa State what do you think of? Them blowing a 23 point lead in Lubbock last weekend? Yeah, so do I. WVU has Texas this weekend in Austin but they are in no position to look ahead of anybody on its schedule. I would compare ISU to a junkie. When they are playing at home in Ames - that is their ultimate high and play like they are on top of the world. When they are on the road though - they are rock bottom and ice cold. This is a perfect spot for WVU here. Keep the Cyclones from making 3PT or get them in foul trouble and it’s all good for WVU.
Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys (-6); total 134.5; 7:00pm
The Red Raiders are in a free fall. Oklahoma State is healthy and playing at a very high level close to when they had Cade Cunningham. Of course, Cade was the #1 overall draft pick but this team is different. Moussa Cisse is healthy and is dominating the paint on both sides of the ball. Red Raiders are very short and won’t have any answer in the rebound department. We also love OSU in Stillwater. Oklahoma State has one of the best home court advantages in the Big 12. I see the OSU defense having a field day against Texas Tech.
Wisconsin Badgers vs. Penn State Nittany Lions (-4.5); total 126.5; 7:30pm
The Nittany Lions are coming off back to back road losses. What does that mean? Buy the dip, baby. Last time Penn State played at home we were all over it and they blew Michigan out by 20. Wisconsin struggled with Northwestern this past weekend and lost even though they made nine 3PT. Penn State lost to Nebraska on the road mostly due to Keisei Tominaga, the Japanese Flame Thrower, dropping 30 points. PSU made thirteen 3PT and lost… definitley a bounce back here. This is also another NCAA Tournament elimination game. I’ll lay the points at State College.
Sand Diego State Aztecs vs. Utah State Aggies (-1); total 145.5; 9:00pm ct
The Aztecs take their pressure defense to Logan, Utah to face the Aggies. The Aggies are coming off two straight wins. This was a dead even game when these two met earlier this year except for the Aggies fouled the Aztecs one too many times. SDST shot 20 FTs compared to Utah State’s 10. San Diego State has had the Aggies number but not when they play on the road. I like Utah State’s 3PT shooting and veteran guards. They also have big men to rebound. They just can’t get flustered by the Aztec pressure. I like the Aggies.
Other highlighted games:
Syracuse Orange Men (-2) vs. Florida State Seminoles; total 149.5; 6:00pm
It’s nut-cuttin’ time for Jim Boheim and his Syracuse team. We have another short number with Syracuse on the road. I’m a big fan of Judah Mintz and his game. It’ll definitely translate to the next level. Another game where we talk about the bad bounces Syracuse has gotten but they have a good team that should be able to make the NCAA Tournament but there are no promises during the Ides of March. This line scares me because the Orange are on the road so I will stay away.
DePaul Blue Demons vs. Villanova Wildcats (-10); total 142; 7:30pm ct
Earlier this season DePaul upset Villanova at home defeating them by 10 points. Now, Nova is laying 10 points in Philly. It’s been 1 month since Villanova defeated a school by more than 10 points. Nova is healthier but this is a huge move and I don’t believe it’s warranted. On Sunday, Seton Hall was laying 10 points vs. DePaul at home and Villanova - a team not as good as Seton Hall is posting the same number. This would be an auto play for us. Seton Hall shot 45 (!) FTs that game and still lost. Dirty dog play here.
Saint Joseph’s Hawks vs. Loyola Chicago Ramblers (-3.5); total 141.5; 8:00pm
We have a winner for the weirdest line of the night. Joe’s is off a home loss to LaSalle and Loyola Chicago just defeated George Mason. The Hawks are still one of the hottest teams in the Atlantic 10. Do we sell or buy low on St. Joe’s? Hard to trust some of these A10 teams so its a pass for me.
Florida Gators vs. Alabama Crimson Tide (-9); total 148; 8:00pm ct
I see the nine points here and start thinking to myself that Florida should be the play here because of its defense. Then, I start to think about what Kansas State did to the Gators. Alabama has guards and wings that could give this Gators team problems. Florida’s problem isn’t so much its defense unable to handle athletic wings but if the offense can keep up with those better offensive players. That’s what scares me - can the Gators score?! The Gators are behind South Florida and North Florida in offensive efficiency. Not good. Gators played a dead even game with Kentucky and loss by 5. Arkansas just waxed UK last night. I don’t trust the Florida offense on the road and I don’t care to lay 9 points with Bama.
Oklahoma Sooners vs. Baylor Bears (-9.5); total 140.5; 8:00pm ct
Baylor is back in the Ferrell Center hosting the Oklahoma Sooners. Baylor blew Texas Tech off the court on Saturday and will look to do the same to Oklahoma tonight. The Sooners are hurting badly and are probably in NIT territory. I’ve been waiting for that game where the Sooners pull it together but they are starting to run out of time. OU’s last performance at home against OSU was embarrassing to put it nicely. I expect Baylor to run through OU like they did Tech.
