College Hoops Thursday

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will have upset on their minds as they host the 2nd place North Texas Mean Green in Ruston, LA tonight.

We had a wild finish out west as the Washington Huskies got the upset win over Oregon at home thanks to freshman Keyon Menifield's 27 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. That makes 4 straight winning days and there’s no time to slow down. Let’s get after it!

Purdue Boilermakers vs. Maryland Terrapins (+1.5); total 132; 5:30pm ct

When these two met up earlier this season Maryland’s pressure defense gave Purdue hell. Maryland creates its offense with its defense, forcing turnovers and turning the game into a track meet. Kevin Willard’s team will swarm Zach Edey and if they chase the freshman guards off the 3PT line and don’t give up any easy buckets in the paint Maryland will be successful. Maryland has yet to lose a home Big 10 game and I don’t expect that to change tonight.

North Texas Mean Green vs. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (+3.5); total 118.5; 6:00pm

The Mean Green are in 2nd place in the CUSA and are riding a 6 game winning streak heading into Ruston. Louisiana Tech has been keeping games close recently and is on a 4-1 against the spread run. LT has historically been tough for the Mean Green at home. The Bulldogs only loss by 2 on the road against UNT earlier this season. I like the Bulldogs to keep this one close with upset on their minds tonight.

Wichita State Shockers (+4.5) vs. Temple Owls; total 137.5; 6:00pm ct

The Shockers have come on strong lately while Temple is currently on a 3 game losing streak. Temple isn’t a strong home team either so that doesn’t help its case because the Shockers are a tough road team. These teams are fairly even and Temple is layer 2 points too many. The hook tells it all. Shockers!

Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Iowa Hawkeyes (-7.5); total 152.5; 8:00pm ct

A new week and a new handicap explaining Ohio State is in a free fall and needs to be faded. OSU last win was against these Hawkeyes and they smacked them around pretty good. “Oh how the turn tables” (Michael Scott) and this is a game I feel Iowa will be ready to pounce all over OSU. I do not like to lay a number over 8 unless there is a situation in play - and we have it tonight. It needs to be a black in Carver-Hawkeye tonight because it will be the Buckeyes funeral.

Utah Utes vs. Arizona Wildcats (-11); total 146.5; 9:00pm ct

Again, not a fan of laying a number like this but the situation calls for it. U of A is coming off an embarrassing loss to Stanford and Utah gave Arizona its first loss of the season beating them up. Now Arizona is at home and ready to release some frustration on its opponent and it just so happens to be a revenge spot with no look ahead game. I can see a 15-20 point win for Arizona. They tend to get bored when they get up 20 points but if they want to earn a 1 seed they can afford to lose focus. I like Tubelis to destroy this inferior Utah team and Arizona to run away with it.

Other highlighted games:

Colorado Buffaloes vs. Arizona State Sun Devils (-4)

If you don’t want to lay large numbers tonight then I would go with ASU. They are hard to trust but at home I expect ASU to get the job done against struggling Colorado.
