College Hoops Big Monday
Marcus Carr and the Texas Longhorns host the Baylor Bears in a Big 12 matchup in a battle to climb to the top of the conference standings.
After a huge Sunday going 4-1 we are back at it for a light slate on a Monday headlined by Baylor vs. Texas. Let’s build off of yesterday’s handicaps and get into today’s games. Let’s get after it!
Virginia Cavaliers vs. Syracuse Orange Men (+5.5); total 132.5; 6:00pm ct
Syracuse is coming off a game in which they were destroyed by Virginia Tech and its 3PT shooting. The Virginia offense is not very good this year and of course is lead by its strong defense. Syracuse has a decent offense and if they can get the 3 ball to fall they will have success. The UVA defense is best at defending inside the paint but are in the middle of the country defending from deep. If Syracuse can get the ball working on the outside I like them to have success and with getting more than 5 I’ll take the Orange here.
Baylor Bears (+4) vs. Texas Longhorns; total 147; 8:00pm ct
The University of Texas is looking to hold on to its tie for first place tonight in Austin. Baylor is the hottest team in the Big 12 heading into this game and they’ve also had plenty of success on the road against the Longhorns. Baylor has NBA talent lead by Keyonte George of Lewisville, TX. Texas coming off a big loss to Tennessee on Saturday. As good as the Texas defense is, the Longhorns tend to have too many lulls on offense. Baylor does not have a lockdown defense as in years past but their offense is powerful lead by veteran guards Flagler and Cryer. This number is 2 points to high for me. I’ll take the hot road team getting 4 points.
Iowa State Cyclones (-1) vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders; total 129.5; 8:00pm ct
Texas Tech finally got a win except it was out of conference against the SEC’s worst team in the LSU Tigers. Iowa State got its teeth kicked in on Saturday against by Mizzou on the road. The Cyclones are not a good road team but the Red Raiders just don’t have what they are used to. Will Tech make 11 3PTs against ISU like they did against LSU? Situationally one would think this is a great spot for Tech but I have seen this team and its lack of offense and defense. I’ll take Iowa State’s offense here before I take Texas Tech’s. Red Raiders are missing so much. In its last home game only 1K fans showed up… Cyclones for me.
