College Hoops Sunday
Legendary Temple Basketball head coach John Chaney. The Owls host the Memphis Tigers today.
Yesterday we went (3-5) thanks to a terrible read on South Carolina and Kansas State. The Oklahoma Sooners blew the cover after West Virginia jacked up a three pointer at the buzzer. Missouri also had a meltdown late after leading the majority of the game. Takes out overall record to (13-15). So, we move on to today. This will be a quick one.
St. John’s Red Storm (+14.5) vs. UCONN Huskies; total 151.5; 11:00am ct
Far too many points to lay with the Huskies. As we have discuss UCONN is a little over valued and this line shows it. UCONN has plenty of size but the Johnnies have Joel Soriano inside to compete. If St. John’s bring its toughness on defense then expect them to keep it close. Too many points here. I got the 14.5 late last night. This is good with anything in double figures.
Northwestern Wildcats vs. Michigan Wolverines (-4.5); total 135.5; 11:00am ct
Northwestern started Big 10 play out hot and this past week was ranked in the 24 Pack but dropped a bad lost at home to Rutgers. They will have a slight hangover. Michigan has found something in Jett Howard and playing with a little more pace. Michigan is a good matchup against NW and they will prove it today using its superior talent.
Marquette Golden Eagles vs. Xavier Musketeers (-3.5); total 163.5; 11:00am ct
A road game for Marquette against a team that plays just as hard and tough as they do. Xavier will be at home and they will use their size in the paint to make the difference. Marquette struggled with UCONN on the boards and I expect the same here against Freemantle and Nunge. Souley Boum has been on fire and I don’t expect that to stop today. This number is under 4 so I’m taking Xavier at home.
South Florida Bulls vs. East Carolina Pirates (-2); total 139.5; 12:00pm ct
As we saw yesterday, UCF played with a bit of a hangover against Tulane and got blown out. During the week UCF had a double OT win vs. Memphis then wen on the road. South Florida played toe to toe with the #1 Houston Cougars but eventually fell. Now the Bulls go on the road to take on an ECU team that has had their number. Pirates at home laying a short number. If Pirates make their 3PT then Bulls will be in for a long day.
Memphis Tigers vs. Temple Owls (+5); total 149.5; 2:00pm ct
Some of the same thinking as above except Temple has a solid team and they have one 4 of the last 5 in AAC play. Memphis will be in for a long day on the road. Memphis PG Kendric Davis struggled against Temple at SMU and I see more of the same happening today. Too many points here for the Owls and the number is rising.
