College Baseball on the West Coast:

  • 2/24/23: Washington State Cougars (+125) vs. UC Irvine Anteaters (-155); total 10; 12:00pm ct

This will be the opening game of the Tony Gwynn Legacy (invitational?) being held on multiple campuses in San Diego. UC Irvine has started the season (4-0) with a sweep of Tulane and defeating the USC Trojans earlier this week. A tough start to the season compared to WSU’s games against Villanova and UC Riverside. The Cougars will be pitcher their ace RHP Dakota Hawkins (1-0, 0.00 ERA) who dominated Villanova striking out 10 batters in 5 scoreless innings. The Anteaters will be starting RHP David Vizcaino (1-0, 0.00 ERA) who allowed only 2 hits in 5.2 innings of work with 5 strikeouts. The Anteaters offense has been hot against top competion and they are led by Jo Oyama who is batting .400/.471/.800 (AVG/OBP/SLG) from Japan. This is also a very patient offense as Irvine is happy to take free bases. I feel this number is about 10 cents too cheap. Hawkins had a great start but this is no Villanova offense. I like the ‘Eaters here.

Pick: UC Irvine (-155); $100 bet to win $64.52

  • 2/24/23: UNLV Hustlin’ Rebels (-125) vs. UC San Diego Trident (-105); total 11.5; 1:00pm ct

UNLV has started the season on a great note offensively currently ranking second in the nation and lead the conference in batting with a .432 average. They also lead the MW in runs scored with 53, hits with 51 and in RBI with 45. UC San Diego has faltered against stiff competition early on this season and this feels like a short number for the Hustlin’ Rebels.

Pick: UNLV (-125); $100 bet to win $80

  • 2/24/23: Arizona State Sun Devils (+165) vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs (-205); total 10.5; 4:00pm ct

The Sun Devils are off to a hot start (4-0) while the Bulldogs start (2-2) dropping a couple games against lesser competition. ASU will be starting its ace and top prospect LHP Ross Dunn (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who in his first outing pitched only 2.2 innings not allowing any runs. MSU will also be throwing their ace in RHP Cade Smith (1-0, 0.00 ERA) who had a dominant 4 inning performance against VMI tallying 5 strikeouts. ASU has a good offense but its the pitching staff that is top notch only allowing opponents a .049 batting average with runners in scoring position. This price does not correctly reflect the talent of the Sun Devils so I’ll take a shot with the Devils at a nice price.

Pick: Arizona State (+165); $100 bet to win $165

  • 2/24/23: USC Trojans (+180) vs. #20 Auburn Tigers (-220); total 10.5; 6:00pm ct

The Trojans were set to host this series but late changes were made do to the weather I believe so Auburn now hosts. The Trojans will start RHP Tyler Stromsborg (0-0, 5.06 ERA) who in 5.1 innings of work against Marist allowed 3 earned runs, 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. Not the best performance against the Red Foxes who are not in the same class as this #20 Auburn team. Tigers will start sophomore RHP Chase Allsup (0-0, 9.00 ERA) who struggled against the Indiana Hoosiers allowing 2 ER, 2 BBs & 1 HR in 2 innings of work. Both of these teams are littered with strong hitting and some skeptical SPs will begin the game. I’m going over here due to these factors as well late travel schedule.

Pick: Over 10.5 runs (-115); $100 bet to win $86.96

  • 2/24/23: West Virginia Mountaineers (+155) vs. Arizona Wildcats (-190); total 10.5; 7:00pm ct

Quick write up here so let me drop the meat and potatoes for yall. U of A will be starting stud pitch TJ Nichols (1-0, 1.50 ERA) who shut down a strong Tennessee Volunteer offense. WVU will be starting its ace in LHP Ben Hampton (1-0, 1.50 ERA) who shut down an even stronger offense in Georgia Southern in 6 inning pitched. I like both of these aces to turn this into a pitching duel. I’m going under.

Pick: Under 10.5 runs (-120); $100 bet to win $83.33
