College Basketball Season Record: 38-29-2 — Betting 1 Unit to Win X

  • 10:00am cst: Texas A&M Aggies -3 vs. Florida Atlantic Owls; Total 144

This will be the toughest matchup either team has faced to begin the season. Two good defensive teams where the Aggies should have the rebounding advantage. Florida Atlantic will have the advantage with the 3PT shot so A&M will need to be able to run FAU off the three point line. If the Aggies limit the FAU made threes they will be successful. I like the Aggies rebounding advantage.

Pick: Texas A&M -3 (-110) [via Caesars]

  • 12:00pm cst: North Carolina Tar Heels -4 vs. Arkansas Razorbacks; Total 155

The Tar Heels will have the rebounding and defensive advantage in this one. We discussed the Arkansas limitations yesterday and Memphis was able to handle the Razorbacks easily. I like the Tar Heels to bounce back after a tough loss to Villanova by dominating the paint and boards.

Pick: North Carolina -4 (-112) [via DraftKings]

  • 12:30pm cst: Penn State Nittany Lions -1 vs. Butler Bulldogs; Total 146.5

Both of these teams play defense first. It worked early for Penn State against A&M but because of the lack of offense they were unable to keep pace with the Aggies. I think Butler’s close game with FAU gave them some confidence. Butler ranks high in metrics over Penn State especially on the offensive side of the ball. I want to back the team that can get a three or bucket in a pinch.

Pick: Butler +1 (-115) [via DraftKings]

  • 2:30pm cst: Memphis Tigers vs. Villanova Wildcats -3.5; Total 144

Villanova is coming off a tough game against North Carolina where they won in OT. Memphis is still flying below the radar. The Tigers are playing great defense and rebounding the basketball. Villanova is a good team but I feel like this will be a close game and Memphis could even steal one here.

Pick: Memphis +3.5 (-18) [via DraftKings]

  • 2:00pm cst: USC Trojans -2 vs. Oklahoma Sooners; Total 141

Oklahoma destroyed Iowa but we know the Hawkeyes do not play any defense. USC’s big man had 10 blocks last night so you know the Trojans will protect the paint. OU is still unproven where USC has faced a couple of good teams in Kansas State and Seton Hall. We still need for this OU team to prove they can play with the Nations best. Until then, we back this explosive USC team.

Pick: USC -2 (-110) [via DraftKings]

  • 4:30pm cst: Baylor Bears -3 vs. Florida Gators; Total 157.5

This should be a good game. Both teams feel about even to begin the season. Florida might have the rebounding advantage here but the Bears will have the offensive advantage. If we have learned anything this week it is that it is better to back a team that can score when things get rough. I will back the Bears who are the better offensive and three point shooting team. When Florida played Virginia they were stumped by the Cavs’ defense.

Pick: Baylor -3 (-108) [via DraftKings]

  • 4:30pm cst: Iowa State Cyclones -5.5 vs. Virginia Tech Hokies; Total 140

This should be a run and gun shootout. These teams rate about even. I will take the Hokies offense to keep pace and possibly win against the Cyclones.

Pick: Virginia Tech +5.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]

  • 5:00pm cst: Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Michigan Wolverines -2.5; Total 139.5

Here is another game where we need Texas Tech to prove they can do something on offense against a formidable opponent. Michigan is slowly playing better offensively and rebounding the basketball. I’m backing Michigan until Texas Tech proves they can score points.

Pick: Michigan -2.5 (-108) [via DraftKings]

  • 6:00pm cst: Alabama Crimson Tide -6.5 vs. Ohio State Buckeyes; Total 154

The Crimson Tide have a high powered offense and on a neutral I do not think Ohio State will be able to keep up. The Buckeyes do not have the same athletes and talent as Alabama does. The Crimson Tide have much higher metrics than the Buckeyes on both sides of the ball especially rebounding.

Pick: Crimson Tide -6.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]

  • 7:00pm cst: VCU Rams vs. Boise State Broncos -4; Total 135

This is a game where the Broncos should not be favored by four points. VCU ranks higher in all important metrics by a nice margin. VCU plays defense and rebounds and if they can make some shots they will eventually grind down the Broncos. Boise shouldn’t be favored here.

Pick: VCU +4 (-112) [via DraftKings]

  • 7:00pm cst: Vanderbilt Commodores vs. Arizona State Sun Devils -1.5; Total 140

I am assuming people are expecting a miracle from ASU after getting killed by BYU last night. How are the Sun Devils going to score consistently? At least Vandy can force some turnovers and hit some threes. Wrong team favored. In no way would I trust ASU laying points.

Pick: Vanderbilt +1.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]

  • 7:30pm cst: Northern Iowa Panthers vs. Stanford Cardinal -5.5; Total 146

If UNI is anything, it is battle tested. The Cardinal are getting a lot of respect here. UNI can keep up offensively and will not be over matched physically by Stanford. Gonna buy low on UNI once again. Stanford getting too much respect in my opinion.

Pick: UNI +5.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]

  • 8:30pm cst: Santa Clara Broncos vs. Oregon Ducks -5; Total 145

Oregon will have the advantage on the glass and defensively as they should be the much bigger team. If Oregon can cut down on the turnovers they should be able to have a strong game. Feels like a light number for a very good Oregon team.

Pick: Oregon -5 (-110) [via DraftKings]

  • 9:30pm cst: North Carolina State Wolfpack vs. BYU Cougars -6; Total 151

NC State might have enough size to keep this a close game against BYU. The Cougs shot lights out last night. The NC State style of forcing tempo may speed up BYU as well. I’m taking a shot with NC State who has size and good metrics to keep up with BYU if this becomes an offensive game.

Pick: NC State +6 (-105) [via DraftKings]
