College Basketball Season Record: 22-22-1 — Betting 1 Unit to Win X

  • 11:00am cst: North Carolina Tar Heels -11.5 vs. Northern Iowa; Total 149

Northern Iowa is a team we will be buying on when conference play starts up but not tonight. When I watched UNI against North Texas they struggled a bit with their size and speed. This is a massive step up in competition for UNI. North Carolina has a couple of the best players in the country with Armando Bacot and RJ Davis. They also added Harrison Ingram from Stanford who I rate as a good player but we have to see how he plays with this new team. I will lay it here with the Tar Heels. This number feels short with the talent discrepancy here.

Pick: North Carolina -11.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]

  • 12:30pm cst: Boston College Eagles vs. Colorado State Rams; Total 146

This is an interesting game. Colorado State has started red hot this season especially on the offensive side of the ball. The Rams are untested in my opinion and this is a step up. Don’t get me wrong this is still a good team but the BC Eagles play defense and love to rebound. Boston College has also played decent competion like Richmond and Harvard. Colorado State hasn’t played anyone. I am backing the better defense and rebounding team with BC taking the points on a neutral.

Pick: Boston College +5.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]

  • 1:30pm cst: Tennessee Volunteers vs. Kansas Jayhawks -1.5; Total 140.5

Tennessee was a dog fight / hack fest last night against Purdue. One thing was obvious aside from any fouls: Tennessee struggled massively to get a bucket in crunch time. This killed the Vols. Kansas was embarrassed last night against Marquette. The Jayhawks let Marquette speed them up and turn them over. Tennessee will be more than happy to play a slower game. Problem is in my opinion, Tennessee has played in some tough games and this will be their third game in a row against stiff competition. Kansas started against Chaminade and we know they didn’t put in a full effort last night so they should be rested for this one. I am not the biggest Kansas fan long term this year but in this situation I rather have Kansas. Bill Self got embarrassed last night and I expect a spirited effort.

Pick: Kansas -1.5 (-108) [via DraftKings]

  • 1:30pm cst: Villanova Wildcats -3.5 vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders; Total 129.5

This will be an offense vs. defense matchup. The Red Raiders have not shown very much for offense early on in the season against lesser competition. Tech is also one of the worst 3PT shooting teams in the country right now. Again, against lesser competition. If this game is close, I do not want anything to do with a team that struggles to score offensively. I like this Villanova team this season.

Pick: Villanova -3.5 (-112) [via DraftKings]

  • 4:00pm cst: Marquette Golden Eagles vs. Purdue Boilermakers -3; Total 142

It was confirmed that once again, if you are playing Purdue you must assume they will be getting 30+ FTs whether they are warranted or not. Purdue’s weakness is teams that play like Marquette. The Golden Eagles are pests, they run fast and can play physical. Purdue’s worst nightmare. This is why teams like Maryland, Farleigh Dickinson give them hell. This is just a great matchup that favors Marquette. The Golden Eagles are living right and running hot.

Pick: Marquette +3 (-110) [via DraftKings]

  • 4:00pm cst: Memphis Tigers -1 vs. Michigan Wolverines; Total 153.5

After Michigan defeated St. Johns it appeared they may have a squad but then they were killed by Long Beach State at home. The Johnnies aren’t as strong as expected to start the season so that may be saying something about Michigan. Memphis will be playing tough defense and one of the best rebounding teams in the country right now. I’m backing the tougher, defensive team that rebounds.

Pick: Memphis -1 (-112) [via DraftKings]
