College Basketball Sides Season Record: 4-8-0 — Betting 1 Unit to Win X
10:30am cst: LSU Tigers -2.5 vs. North Texas Mean Green; Total 126.5
North Texas is a defense first team that at time struggles to shoot the basketball. They escaped Northern Iowa earlier in the season because they shot 90% from 3PT range in the 1H. LSU is about average in most categories, which is a few notches higher than North Texas. I feel that the LSU offense has an upper hand in this game. I will lay it with LSU here as an undervalued side.
Pick: LSU -2.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]
11:00am cst: Vermont Catamounts -4.5 vs. Saint Louis Billikens; Total 140.5
Don’t get me wrong, Vermont is a very solid team but this line has flown a little too far towards the Catamounts. Vermont will have the better offense here most likely but Saint Louis should not be getting four points here based on their defense and rebounding. I will take the points here with an undervalued Saint Louis team.
Pick: Saint Louis +4.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]
1:00pm cst: Dayton Flyers -1 vs. St. Johns Red Storm; Total 139
St. Johns is off to a slow start to the season mostly due to trying to mesh together a good amount of transfers in Rick Pitino’s first season at the helm. The Red Storm also rank pretty low in many categories other than rebounding. Dayton does not have a very high powered offense. Dayton also did not have a great game against LSU but still grabbed the win. The Johnnies win over North Texas is impressive in my book. I think St. Johns can make this an ugly game they can pull off the win. Will the 3PT save the Flyers again? Not likely. St. Johns should be able to handle the Dayton press.
Pick: St. Johns +1 (-110) [via DraftKings]
1:30pm cst: Wyoming Cowboys vs. College of Charleston Cougars -5.5; Total 151
Charleston is the home team here but the metrics are not showing any reasons to back the Cougars. Wyoming ranks higher in offense, defense and rebounding. I am going to take a shot with Wyoming getting points here. I had Wyoming being favored here.
Pick: Wyoming +5.5 (-108) [via DraftKings]
2:30pm cst: Miami Hurricanes -7.5 vs. Georgia Bulldogs; Total 155
The Hurricanes are off to a hot start to the season. Georgia is still building a program but we learned after their game against Oregon that they are a team to look for in undervalued spots. Miami has a high powered offense but Georgia will want to run with them. Georgia also has a higher rated defense with rebounding. I’ll take a shot with the dog here, no pun intended. Georgia just needs to get a couple of stops and match most of Miami’s scoring. They need the rebounding edge today.
Pick: Georgia +7.5 (-108) [via DraftKings]
3:30pm cst: Houston Cougars -9.5 vs. Utah Utes; Total 133
We have a little preview of what may very well be a long time Big 12 rivalry in basketball. Both team love to play defense. Cougars are rated as the best defensive team so far in the country but Utah is not that far off. I still have them ranking in the top 35 respectively. Where Utah has the advantage is they can score and rebound the basketball. I really like how Utah can rebound and shoot thet three ball. On a neutral I feel like this is too many points for Houston to be laying. I will take the Utes in what should be a tough game.
Pick: Utah +9.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]
3:30pm cst: Oklahoma State Cowboys -7.5 vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish; Total 134
Oklahoma State has not been impressive this season especially losing at home to Abilene Christian. It’s not the fact that they loss to ACU but their offense was just atrocious. Notre Dame is an extremely young team that was just destroyed by Auburn. Auburn is a veteran team so that score was not shocking at all. Notre Dame isn’t great but neither is OSU to be favored by 7.5. I will take the Irish here hoping this young team opens it up on offense. This number shouldn’t be higher than six in my opinion. Notre Dame just needs to keep the turnovers down and shoot better than 45% and I think they will be very much in this game. Hopefully they do not fall in love with the three ball when they are shooting it poorly.
Pick: Notre Dame +7.5 (-110) [via Caesars]
5:00pm cst: Kansas State Wildcats vs. Providence Friars -1.5; Total 145
These teams are evenly matched and both are going through growing pains with new transfer players. The Wildcats need to get better defensively, which they should by the end of the season. The Wildcats have the rebounding edge as well as the three point shooting. In what may very well be a coin flip game, I rather have the better three point shooting team that is more likely to protect a lead or come from behind. This should be a great game but I will side with the Wildcats.
Pick: Kansas State +1.5 (-108) [via DraftKings]
5:30pm cst: Butler Bulldogs vs. Michigan State Spartans -10; Total 139
This game will be played at the Breslin Center but I still do not think that should justify a ten point spread for the struggling Spartans. Michigan State has struggled on both ends of the basketball mightily. Butler on the other hand has extremely high defensive ratings and is rated too bad offensively. I do think Michigan State has played a tough schedule so far in the season but this is a couple points too many based on my numbers.
Pick: Butler +10 (-108) [via DraftKings]
6:00pm cst: St. Bonaventure Bonnies vs. Auburn Tigers; Total 143
This is a huge step up in competition for the Bonnies against a veteran heavy Auburn team. Auburn ranks higher in every important category miles ahead of the Bonnies. I tried to sniff any possible angle due to the number being 10 but nothing popped. If Auburn stays focused this is a game they should be able to run away with. Auburn is the only thing that can stop Auburn. We will see how it plays out. The Tigers can get lazy with the basketball at times as well.
Pick: Auburn -10 (-110) [via DraftKings]
6:00pm cst: Long Beach State Dirtbags vs. Michigan Wolverines -15; Total 143
This is a big number and I would not blame anyone laying off it but Michigan is a freight train right now. Coach Phil Martelli has this team running hot. I truly think this number should be in the 20’s and that is why I am playing Michigan. LBSU is not close to being in the same gym as Michigan. Wolverines at home should run away.
Pick: Michigan -15 (-110) [via DraftKings]
6:00pm cst: Florida State Seminoles vs. Florida Gators -8.5; Total 156
The Gators are getting a lot of respect here and I am not sure why. Yes, they are playing at home but this Seminoles team is very underrated and this line is proving that. The Seminoles rank much higher in every significant category. This is far too many points for the Gators to be laying even at home. If Florida State can keep up on the boards this game will be close and they can even steal a rivalry win in Gainesville.
Pick: Florida State +8.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]
8:30pm cst: Saint Mary’s Gaels -1.5 vs. San Diego State Aztecs;
These teams are very similar. In my opinion the main difference is the Aztecs are stronger and tougher. This should be a tight one but I am siding with the Aztecs. The Aztecs are also the better offensive team just slightly. I’m siding with the Aztecs.
Pick: San Diego State +1.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]
9:00pm cst: UNLV Runnin’ Rebels -2.5 vs. Pepperdine Waves
UNLV is off to a rough start to the season and I do not feel they should be laying this type of number. These offenses are about equal but Pepperdine loves to play defense. The Rebels defense is no where close to being good enough to lay this. I’ll take Pepperdine, gladly.
Pick: Pepperdine +2.5 (-110) [via DraftKings]
10:30pm cst: South Carolina Gamecocks -5 vs. DePaul Blue Demons
DePaul ranks near the bottom of many categories to start the season. Quite the opposite of their opponents. This number may need to be a bit closer to 7 or 8. For that reason, I will be backing the Gamecocks.
Pick: South Carolina -4.5 (-110) [via Caesars]
11:00pm cst: Xavier Musketeers -2.5 vs. Washington Huskies
Xavier is a small favorite in Vegas but should they be? These teams are rated almost equally to start the season. This is close to a coin flip game so I will back the Huskies on a neutral getting points. It might be a rock fight to end the night. Let’s see how it goes.
Pick: Washington +2.5 (-110) [via Caesars]
